Text Box: It's NEW, and it's REALLY *HOT*...
Inkjet Applications is done...after years of secrecy, the cat is out of the bag! This book will show you the magic behind HP's inkjet technology, and enable you to create your own printing device - for experimentation, industrial applications, artistic devices - whatever you can imagine...
Hewlett-Packard's Specialty Printing Systems division in Boise, Idaho is home to the Thermal Inkjet 1.0 support and design team, and one of their core products is the HP51604A inkjet cartridge about which the book is written.
These *Inkjet gurus* thought it would be interesting to allow me to write an "experimenter / developers guide" that describes the circuits and code necessary to "vaporize" ink using nothing more than a single microcontroller, such as the BASIC Stamp 2 or SX microcontrollers from Parallax.
There are many different circuits in the book, but some of the more interesting ones incorporate the use of a Parallax Boe-Bot.  In essence, I transformed him into "Paint-Bot" - an ink-spitting (up to 4 or 5 inches), mobile robot of terror! .
Paint-Bot's first movie shows what he can do.  The BoeBot is outfitted with a 'Ping' ultrasonic sensor.   When Paint-Bot detects a foe within 4 inches or so, look out! - If you decide to build one, let me know, and watch where you point that thing! (Protective dome coming soon!)
*Each time a nozzle fires an ink droplet, it does so with a very short burst of energy that vaporizes ink with a temperature SEVEN TIMES the surface of the Sun. And all this can now be controlled with a BASIC Stamp microcontroller!

Text Box: Inkjet Design Contest !
Hewlett Packard and Parallax have put together a prize package worth a total of over $3000.00, consisting of 12 awards, in 3 separate categories. Prizes include two different models of the latest and coolest HP inkjet printers, some HP 6.2 mega pixel digital cameras, and several Parallax Professional Development Boards for both BASIC Stamp and SX applications. Get complete details and Entry information here.
The Contest runs from Early December 2005 to July 15, 2006. You do not need to use Parallax microcontrollers in your application, however you will probably want to at least get some inkjet design information from their site.
This Contest is a neat-o way to explore potential inkjet projects, or even to help inspire a whole-new commercial product!
